Please be aware the Highways are closing Duck Street from Monday 17th March to Wednesday 19 March (inclusive) ostensibly for pavement repairs at Stag Hill (between the The Stag and the entrance to the new Fallows Watch estate.
The stretch of Duck Street that will be closed is from the Park Road junction with Duck Street (Park road still accessible) through to The Endway at Great Easton.
This will affect 80+ houses in Duck Street, Butchers Pasture, Manor Road and Glebe Lane with a diversionary route to Thaxted then travelling back again through Duton Hill to Duck Street at The Endway. Which is where the closed section begins… Apparently the road is too narrow for one-way traffic controlled by traffic lights.
Why there is the necessity to close so much of Duck Street has not been made clear to us or our County Councillor despite much back and forth…
Highways state: “The diversion route has to be put in on ‘like for like’ roads, when closures take place. Of course, if residents live within the closure site (of where the work is taking place at the time), then they will be guided through, or depending where the workers are, asked to use the detour, although they may have to be patient, and give the team time to move heavy plant etc.”
