NEWSLETTER ISSUE 18: 20th December 2024

It is disappointing that only one project was suggested by parishioners for LEPC to focus on next year – repair the pot-holes in Manor Road. LEPC have previously held informal discussions with Highways regarding the road but a long term resolution requires considerable funding which LEPC alone cannot support.

Manor Road Footpath

The construction of the Manor Road footpath abutting the playing field will recommence on 20th January, subject to weather. A Gigaclear engineer will be on-site to reconnect fibres should any be broken. Work should take about a week but Manor Road will remain open to traffic.

Digital Speed Signs

Two traffic solar-powered Speed Indicator Devices have now been approved for installation by Highways. One located in Mill End and the other north of the main village in Duck Street.

Duck Street Speed Limit

Highways have also approved a reduction of the speed limit in Duck Street between the main village and Mill End to 30mph. A 30mph limit will also be put in place in Park Road from the junction with Duck Street to beyond Little Barn.

Play Equipment

Following approval of an application for a grant, next month a new item of play equipment will be installed in the Playground. The Chime Bells apparatus will be of interest to all children (and adults!) who are interested in music and especially for people living with a disability who cannot otherwise make use of existing apparatus.

Cricket Club

A new agreement has been reached with the Eastons Cricket Club allowing use of the playing field for fixtured matches for at least for the next 25 years. This gives the security the club needs to refurbish the pavilion and increase diversity by having women’s and children’s teams.

If you are interested in joining please see eastonscc.co.uk/contactus.

New Village Planters

Next year we plan to install new, long life, ‘village gateway’ planters replacing those currently in place. The new planters (two at each end of Duck Street plus two more near at the start of the Conservation area) will have inbuilt water reservoirs thus reducing issues of regular watering, especially during dry spells.

LEPC

There will be an extraordinary LEPC meeting held at 9:30am on Saturday 21st December to agree, inter alia, the 25/26 precept. The next ordinary meeting will be on 29th January 2025 at 7:00pm. Both meetings held at the Memorial Hall.

LEPC wishes all parishioners a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

FLOODING

Sunday 7th January 2024

The flooding at Bowyers Bridge (Mill End) has subsided and the road is passable by vehicles. The emergency access route through the quarry is now closed.

Be aware that there still remains serious flooding throughput the area and care should be taken, particularly on the more rural routes.

Thank you to everyone for your understanding and patience over the past three days.
