Heritage Nominations

On the 4th of January 2021, UDC published a draft Local Heritage List for public consultation. Members of the public have until the 15th of February to make any comments either in support of or objection to the assets identified for inclusion in the list. The draft Local Heritage List can be viewed by clicking Here.

Little Easton have nominated two important assets for inclusion in the list and would like as many local residents as possible to write to UDC voicing their support for the nominations.

What is the Local Heritage List?

In addition to nationally listed buildings, there are also a wealth of non-listed buildings and structures that are considered to be locally significant and make a positive contribution to the character and distinctiveness of Uttlesford. This may be due to their historic, aesthetic, evidential or communal value, or a combination of these factors. These are called non-designated heritage assets.

The Local Heritage List aims to identify and record these non-designated heritage assets and clarify what is significant about them, and how they positively contribute to the distinctive historic and architectural character of the locality to ensure that they are given due consideration during any planning process.

Why is it important?

Locally listed status is viewed as a material consideration when determining planning applications and consideration given to the desirability of preserving the special interest of the heritage asset. As we all know, Easton Park remains a target for development by Landsec and it is important to make sure that the various heritage assets in and around the park are given as much statutory protection as possible.

Which heritage assets have been nominated by Little Easton?

Little Easton Parish Council have nominated two separate assets for inclusion on the Local Heritage List:

  1. The WWII Nissen huts at Easton Park (Ref 423 page 19 in draft list) To see the nomination form click Here
  2. Brooke End Stables, Park Road (Ref 424 pages 19 & 20 in draft list) To see the nomination form click Here

What can you do?

If you agree that the nominated assets should be included as non-designated heritage assets in the Local Heritage List, you can write to UDC in support of the nominations. The two nomination forms referred to above give the details of why the assets were nominated and why they should be given non-designated asset status. You can use these forms to give reasons as to why you support the nominations, or you could use the Little Easton Parish Council comments as a template. Even if you don’t feel able to give specific reasons you can still write to UDC expressing your support for the nominations.
