General Election 2019

Voters reminded of key dates

Voters are being reminded of the key dates that may affect them ahead of the General Election taking place on Thursday 12 December.

People have until Tuesday 26 November to register to vote in the election if they are not already registered. Residents who have changed their name, recently moved to a new house, turned 18 or never registered to vote can quickly and easily register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

If you are already registered to vote you don’t need to register again.

Everyone who is registered and eligible to vote will receive a poll card by Friday 22 November. If you have not received your poll card by that date it may mean you are not registered.

Postal and proxy voting

Voters who are unable to attend their polling station on 12 December can apply for a postal vote – the deadline for completed applications to reach the Uttlesford Elections Team is 5pm on Tuesday 26 November.

Alternatively, there is the option to apply for a proxy vote before 5pm on Wednesday 4 December. You can request a proxy vote if you want someone else to vote on your behalf because you can’t get to your polling station on Election Day.

For further information about the upcoming election, including details of how to apply for a postal or proxy vote, visit www.uttlesford.gov.uk/general-election-2019.  You can also contact the Uttlesford Elections Team at elections@uttlesford.gov.uk or 01799 510510 for more information.
